Let The Gift “Talk to You” - Packaging Idea

Every gift has a blessing. Sometimes the blessing is obvious and sometimes it's obscure. If you listen to it carefully, maybe you will discover somebody wants to tell you something.

That is why many people think twice before they give a gift. They considered the meaning, the reaction, and the association. "Talk to You" is a packaging design that is inspired from the said considerations. It's a packaging design for Chinese dried food. And we have a common tradition which is to send gifts on special and important days.

We combined a Taiwanese homonym with dried food to pun on blessings. Each dried food has its own Taiwanese homonym. The customers can choose a maximum of 4 characters to complete their blessing. Such as the homonym of Chinese radish which means good luck in Taiwanese. It's not the only ingenious trick done by the designers. The packaging also has a subtractive color mixing, so the recipient cannot see any word at the beginning. But while opening the gift, he or she will be surprised to see the blessing.

This project was invited to display in "2014 Outstanding Chinese Character Design Works Invitation Exhibition”, which was organized by a well-known Taiwanese designer, Ken-Tsai Lee. The project was also published in the magazine of the exhibition. It also advanced to the finalist of "2014 Adobe Achievement Awards Packaging Design". The competitors came from all over the world. Every finalist’s work was an awesome piece.

Some people may think "Do we really need design?" Of course, but it's not necessary. Design exists in our lives to make it more beautiful and gives people various views to certain things. Every designer creates design with all their might just to give a better and surprising lives.
